Almost 10 years ago we founded The Journal of Blacks in Higher Education.This is a good time to restate and reaffirm the thesis behind the publication of the journal. In employment matters, our country was founded on the theory that the pressures of competition rather than public law were best suited to provide for the fair treatment and evenhanded judgments about the abilities and qualifications of citizens. In higher education, too, it was believed that fair and unbiased treatment in the admission of students and engaging scholars would be protected, in considerable part, by the rewards and penalties inherent in a system of open competition.
JYI's web journal is dedicated to the presentation of undergraduate research in science, mathematics, and engineering. It publishes the best submissions from undergraduates, with an emphasis on both the quality of research and the manner in which it is communicated.
The National Teaching and Learning Forum began publication in the fall of 1991 as a joint venture with the ERIC clearinghouse on higher education.
